High School Students Testimonials

Ian from South Korea (Seaquam Secondary School)

When I first got here, I was warmly welcomed by the kindest homestay parents, James and Jennifer. Their guidance and support were invaluable throughout my high school years. As an international student at Seaquam Secondary School, I was gratefully honoured to receive a $100,000 entrance scholarship from the University of Toronto. During the process when academic pressure seemed overwhelming, I was lucky to have friends who I can share laughter with and teachers like Mr. Mundy, whose priceless life lessons and wisdom sincerely uplifted my spirits. Mrs. Yamazaki, the International Student Coordinator, constantly provided essential support behind the scenes, enriching the experiences of all international students in Canada. Inspired by these kindnesses, I am committed to reciprocating the care and compassion I received by being a bright student and pursuing to become a dentist in Canada.

Petra from Germany (South Delta Secondary School)

Hello, my name is Petra Frisch, and I am a 18 year old grade 12 student at the South Delta Secondary School in Tsawwassen. This school has been a transformative force in my life, igniting a passion for the performing arts that I always knew existed within me. Through the
Equinox Theatre, I had the privilege of playing the lead role two years in a row, an experience that not only shaped my artistic journey but also gave me the courage to pursue my dreams further in life.

I am thrilled to share with you success of my recent celebration of international cultures at the South Delta Secondary School. It was a truly magnificent event, featuring live music, a delectable three-course dinner, and the dazzling SDSS fashion show. What made this event even more
special was my collaboration with three different departments of the school, each contributing their unique talents and resources to make it a resounding success.

As I will embark on this new chapter, I carry with me the lessons of perseverance, hard work, and belief instilled in me by the South Delta Secondary School community. With determination and passion, I am ready to embrace this next stage of my journey, knowing that the support of my community propels me forward.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being part of this incredible school!

Sunsia from South Korea (South Delta Secondary School)

During my time at SDSS, I was fortunate to receive both emotional and educational support from the wonderful individuals within the school community. I am thankful for the guidance and assistance provided by the teachers who helped me navigate my classes and achieve success.

Jeerun from Thailand (Seaquam Secondary School)

I’m Jeerun, a student from Thailand who spent two amazing years studying at Seaquam Secondary School in Canada. I was a grade 11-12 exchange student, and it was an incredible experience that I’ll never forget! Before coming to Canada, English was my least favourite subject, and I struggled with it. But after studying here, my English skills improved so much! The school offered a wide range of academic and elective courses, and the teachers and friends were super supportive. Ms. Yamazaki, the international student teacher, was a huge help, and the counsellors, including my grade 11 counsellor Mr. Sall, guided me in selecting the right subjects for my future goals. In grade 12, Mr. Rickey and Ms. Jamieson were also instrumental in helping me navigate my final year. Plus, Ms. Gehiere offered valuable advice on university applications, which was really helpful! And, there are many more resources and opportunities available to support and enrich the experiences of exchange students and all students here. With all these reasons, I’m now determined to finish my studies and pursue a degree in engineering at a Canadian university.

Victoria from China (South Delta Secondary School)

As an international student, I really like to study in Delta. I spend 5 years in South Delta Secondary school and I’m so sure it’s going to be some of the best memories in my life. All the students and staff are really nice and friendly and I’m grateful for all my friends and teachers. Also, we don’t need to worry about having no friends at first because the international program usually have a lot fun activities. This is my last year at SDSS, I gain success on my University application with 100k scholarship from University of Toronto and with other universities I gain overall of 118k scholarship. These successes are inseparable from my efforts, but I want to thank Ms Cheng for her patience in answering all my questions. I will miss Tsawwassen and SDSS a lot, but I am also look forward to my university life!
